The Neutrinos formed in 1994 after the subsequent disband of Moncton band Fingerbowl, which consisted of Gunther (of Mood Cadillac) on vocals, Jason Vasseur on lead guitar, Carl Comeau on rhythm guitar, Stephane Doiron on bass (later replaced by PJ Dunphy) and Terry Bourgeois on drums. Considering Jason, Carl and Terry were still interested in moving ahead musically and as such formed The Neutrinos, only difference being Jay assuming vocal duties and all guitars, and Carl moving to bass.

Album & Shows

The Neutrinos gigged around Moncton, playing shows at venues such as The Esquire and Doc Dylans (when it was called The Angry Irishmen) on bills with Sani Soft, Honeybucket and many others. The band also shared a jam spot with fellow Moncton band Honeybucket at the Lawnrangers building in Moncton in a spare room they had available out back. Throughout this period, Jay had a shoddy 1/4" Tascam 4-track tape recorder and began recording their debut release. Recording was done between his parents basement and in his girlfriends garage. Despite the conditions and equipment used for the recording, many audio engineers in the city agree the album is the best quality production from Moncton to have ever been recorded and mixed soley on a 4-track cassette player. The album was completed and released in very early 1996 to critical acclaim. Many local musicians in the city cite the album as being far ahead of it's time and a serious influence.

Hiatus

In 1997 Jay moved to Hamilton, Ontario to attend Stoney Creek's famous Recording Arts Canada. Based on the move, The Neutrinos went on indefinite hiatus. Throughout this period Jay started experimenting with solo projects, most of which consisted mainly lead guitar work - venturing heavily into the psychedelic field.

Reunion, Solo Work & Subsequent End

Upon Jay's move back to Moncton in late 1997, The Neutrinos reformed and began jamming once again. At this time he was also recording his debut solo project entitled Space Sine, most of his time musically revolved around this. 8 brand new Neutrinos songs were written and the band entered Ham & Cheese Studios in 1998 - drums, bass and guitars were fully tracked. Jay completed his solo album and released it. The Space Sine work has been described as some of the most intense psychedelic guitar work to have ever come out of the Eastern parts of Canada. The album flew completely under the radar and is slated to see a re-issue via The Van Door Records' Moncton Re-Releases Project. Vocals were never completed for the Neutrinos recording at Ham and Cheese Studios and subsequently the album was shelved. The few who had an opportunity to hear the bed tracks were amazed by the recording even in it's unfished state. Many believed that if the vocals were completed the album would have went on to be very ahead of other releases at the time. The band in general stopped jamming and went into a stagnant state due to the album being shelved. Jay moved into the field of DJing and lost interest in guitar based music.

Current

As of late Jay and Carl maintained their freindship and have actually jammed off and on. Due to the fact neither have had any communication with Terry or know of his whereabouts in a solid 10 years, a reunion seems unlikely but is not ruled out. In the interim, many hope the vocals for the final album will be completed.

As of September 2008, Jay has transferred the original Neutrinos album from the masters to PC, and remastered it all. Unfortunately the cover artwork for the actual album seems to have been lost but it has been recreated for the purpose of being included with the Re-Issue/Re-Master of the album via The Van Door Records' Moncton Re-Releases Project. The album is now availble via http://www.guntohead.com on September 19th.
